Sevco target Tony Pulis has been appointed manager of Middlesbrough.

Last week a frenzy of excitement was built up after the former West Brom manager commented favourably about the Ibrox vacancy while on television duty in the Middle East.

Ignoring the expectation of a £3m a year basic salary the Sevco spin machine went to work on the prospect of a baseball hat moving in to take charge of the Ibrox side.

A little reality set in on Friday when Graeme Murty was given the Sevco job until the end of the season. On Saturday Middlebrough sacked Garry Monk with Pulis installed three days later despite the Christmas holiday.

Having created interest in Alan Pardew, Chris Coleman and Derek McInnes Sevco find themselves scrapping for third place in the SPFL with the youth coach in charge of the January transfer warchest.

Murty faces Motherwell at home tomorrow hoping to improve on his record of four wins and four defeats since taking over from Pedro Caixinha.
