The Daily Record has finally warned it’s army of readers that there are major financial problems at Sevco.

Last night a deal was agreed to sign Jamie Murphy on loan till May after Brighton refused the complex play-now-pay-later offer from the Ibrox side.

After an embarrassing 48 hours the English side agreed to the deal rather than have a reluctant player on the pay roll for a few more months.

Sevco apparently had at least £1m to spend up front but after jumping the gun when Murphy arrived at Glasgow Airport for talks the Ibrox side were left with egg on their faces as Graeme Murty’s side flew to Florida without Murphy.

Various excuses were put up before finally the Record admitted: “It’s understood Brighton’s legal team wanted to do due diligence and a credit check on Gers being good for the whole fee agreed, including add-ons, before they signed off on his clearance.

Although the initial fee was around the £1million mark, it is understood the Seagulls are eventually looking for a full return of the £1.7m they paid Sheffield United for him.”

With a going concern on their accounts and Dave King about to feel the full force of sanctions from the Takeover Appeal Board Brighton didn’t want to get left with a worthless IOU when Sevco go into administration.

Today Sevco have today been linked with a move for Fleetwood striker Devane Cole but with 12 goals in 31 appearances this season the League One outfit are likely to receive bids from clubs that can raise a transfer fee.

Unless a fee is provided in advance there will only be low key loans at Ibrox this month.
