Celtic fans gave a thumbs down to signing John McGinn after watching Hibs lose 1-0 to Hearts in the Scottish Cup at Tynecastle.
The midfielder has been assumed by many to be a Celtic player in waiting with some suggestions that he will be Scott Brown’s eventual replacement.
With little obvious signs of transfer activity this month signing McGinn has been viewed as a fall-back position and someone that will adapt quickly to the demands of playing for Celtic.
I think today will finally kill off the John McGinn to Celtic rumours.
I understand our sights are set at a far higher level

First time I’ve properly watched McGinn. Couldn’t believe how average he looked.

Another mediocre performance from John McGinn. Nowhere near good enough for us.

He might prove me wrong in last 30 mins but today is another hour of watching john mcginn where he’s been absolutely hopeless. I honestly don’t get it with him, just constantly gives the ball away and commits needless fouls!! #overrated #myth

My whole timeline does appear to be about how helplessly mediocre John McGinn is.

John McGinn has been quite poor today

I’m assuming the John McGinn fanclub will be quiet as well? Nowhere near good enough for Celtic. McGeouch is their best midfielder ???????????

Any Celtic fan who would happily see us shell out £2/3m on John McGinn needs locked up!

One game is never a basis for making judgements, good or bad but McGinn didn’t cover himself in glory today.
It was a tough shift for the Scotland midfielder with Hearts determined to give nothing away after losing to Hibs in successive seasons in the Scottish Cup.
In the closing minutes substitute Don Cowie got a slight touch on a Christophe Berra header with McGinn unable to clear from the goal-line.
On Saturday Celtic fans will get a better chance to assess the former Saint Mirren midfielder when Hibs visit Celtic Park with both of this season’s previous SPFL matches ending in 2-2 draws.
