BBC Scotland have stepped up their headlong race to the gutter with an embarassing take on Sevco’s £350,000 bid for Jordan Jones.

Rather than some balanced analysis of an offer for an internationalist with 18 months left on his contract the state broadcaster decided to turn to a manager in the third tier of Scottish football.

The justification seems to be that Ayr United played against Kilmarnock six months ago giving Ian McCall an invaluable insight into the ability of the 23-year-old.

Commenting on the reported bid of £350,000 which Kilmarnock rejected the Ayr boss said: “I think they were well off the mark – I’d pay £150,000 for him.”

Since the Betfred Cup tie in July Kilmarnock have sacked Lee McCulloch and replaced him with Steve Clarke as manager.

Under the former Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool assistant they have stormed up the SPFL table into sixth place.

Unsurprisingly McCall is highly impressed by the loan signings that Sevco have brought in despite not seeing them in action against Ayr this season.

Sean Goss hasn’t played a minute for QPR, Jason Cummings has scored once in 14 Championship appearances for Nottingham Forest, Russel Martin has been out of the Norwich team since August while Jamie Murphy’s last top team action was a nine minute appearance for Brighton against Newcastle on September 24.

Reviewing that collection of ‘talent’ McCall said: “Rangers just seem to be doing safe but decent business that looks to have been thought out a bit.

“Every signing they’ve made – Martin, Cummings, the boy Murphy – these were the type of safe signings they needed at the start of the season.

“Because there were vast sums of money wasted on players that weren’t able to cope with the demands of Scottish football.”

Jones has made more top team appearances than the four loan aces combined.
