Steve Clarke has told Ian McCall to mind his own business after criticising Kilmarnock’s valuation of Jordan Jones.

Football managers rarely make derogatory comments about players at other clubs but slipping on his BBC Scotland cap in midweek the Ayr boss clearly didn’t rate Jones who was the subject of a £300,000 bid from Sevco.

Typically the offer was widely circulated across the media before Kilmarnock had the opportunity to reject it.

McCall claimed that Jones was only worth £150,000 with Clarke taking the opportunity to reply when he faced the media today.

Ian gave an opinion but it’s not one I would agree with,” the Kilmarnock boss told STV.

“He’s entitled to that opinion but it might be better for Ian to concentrate on Ayr and make sure he repays the faith the directors have shown in him.”

Clarke has effectively came into the Scottish game as an outsider after spending 30 years in England as a player and manager.

While most figures in the game tread on egg shells regarding anything to do with Ibrox Clarke treats every club and discussion on merit.

Having made their interest in Jones known Sevco have stepped back with no sign of a follow up.

There’s been nothing apart from the initial bid, I don’t understand what all the furore was about,” Clarke added. “It’s a normal part of football business.

Rangers made an offer for a player that we value quite highly here at Kilmarnock, we felt it was too low and turned it down and that was that in a nutshell.”
