Just like Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha, Graeme Murty has all the answers to Scottish football’s problems.

Applying financial fair play doesn’t really appeal to Murts nor does he have any concern about one of the Ibrox financial donors (Douglas Park) being the second biggest individual shareholder at another Premiership club (Hamilton Accies) as the two clubs discuss transfer terms.

As a former city trader Warbo had opinions on everything as he brought Joey Barton and Pip Senderos to Ibrox while Caixinha tried to upset Hearts and Aberdeen with constant speculation over signing Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean.

Murts has been in Scottish football for less than two years but told The Scotsman why a Sevco Colts side should be welcomed into League Two.

He said: “I firmly believe if we continue to do the same thing in this country as we have always done, we will continue to fail at international level, we will continue to fail our young players, we will continue to fail to give them the best possible opportunity of playing at the highest level.

If we do that, then you are going to have a lost generation of players that compete at 16s, 17s and 19s but then don’t compete on the international stage after that. If we want to continue to do that as a nation, continue on the same path.

But we shouldn’t fear trying to be different, to try and change something and give it a go because our players will benefit, the league will benefit, attendance will benefit and the nation will benefit. But I fully understand that people want us to respect the integrity of the league and their football club.

Everyone wants to safeguard their club, I fully understand that. What we are trying to do is make sure we have an environment that can develop not only this generation but generations to come of elite footballers because we have not done it.”

After a couple of seasons well off the pace in the Development League Sevco withdrew to play a series of friendlies against English and European clubs to accelerate their progress into the first team.

Last week St Johnstone, who have 15 points from 15 matches in the Development League knocked Sevco out of the SFA Youth Cup.
