Scotland’s crazy end of season friendlies

The SFA have arranged close season friendlies for the Scottish national team that demonstrates how out of touch they are with club football.

While it will no doubt be fun and games for the committee men heading to Peru on May 29 and Mexico on June 2 it is impossible to imagine any enthusiasm coming from club managers.

In England the final round of Championship fixtures takes place on May 5 with the play-off final, the richest club match in world football taking place the day before the Peru match.

The final SPFL fixtures will take place on May 13 with the Scottish Cup Final six days later.

There seems to be little or no value in denying players a proper break in order to travel across the Atlantic for friendlies against countries heading to the World Cup Finals.

Should Celtic win the SPFL title they will play their first Champions League qualifier on July 10 or 11 with Brendan Rodgers looking to get his players into pre-season training three weeks earlier.

Celtic will almost certainly be without Tom Rogic and Mikael Lustig for the first qualifiers due to World Cup commitments.
