Alan Stubbs has broken the mould and questioned one of Sevco’s loan signings.

Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Russell Martin have been given the sort of treatment that an outsider would expect for the outsider of Messi, Suarez and Neymar or Bale, Benzimar and Cristiano.

Barely any criticism has been heard of bringing in three players who between them haven’t started a competitive match in over three months, in the case of Goss he hasn’t played a minute of football this year.

Jason Cummings is the latest loanee to join the Ibrox circus and comes with the reputation of a cheeky chappie based on goals scored in the second tier of Scottish football.

Without highlighting the fact that Daryl Murphy and Barrie McKay had outscored Cummings at Nottingham Forest, Stubbs shone a critical light into Graeme Murty’s latest master-stroke.

Am I surprised Rangers went in for Jason? No because I know his representatives are very fond of Rangers, put it that way,” the former Hibs boss told the Daily Record.

I can see why it’s happened but I’m probably surprised Jason hasn’t stuck it out longer down in England because that seemed to be a big motivation for him, going there in the first place.

I know he needs to play games but I’m surprised he hasn’t stayed around to try and impress the new manager at Forest.

I don’t know if it’s a lack of ambition because Jason is an ambitious guy – and you have to admit Rangers are a huge club.”

In seven Championship starts and seven appearances as a substitute Cummings has scored just one goal. Murphy has scored seven times with McKay getting five goals.
