Daniel Candeias is looking to capture the domestic double and join up with Ronaldo and Bruno Alves in Portugal’s World Cup squad.

A couple of goals against Ayr United and Hamilton Accies has sent delusions sky high at Sevco with the Portuguese ace subscribing in full.

By Sunday afternoon Sevco expect to be six points behind Celtic with that gap likely to be cut even further after the Hoops visit Ibrox on March 11.

After a journeyman career it is unchartered territory for Candeias who couldn’t contain his excitement in an interview with a Portuguese magazine.

The Daily Record reported the winger saying: “Our aim this season is to win at least one trophy. We are also in the Scottish Cup quarter final too. With the size of club we are and the fans that we represent, we should be winning trophies.

“We still have to play Celtic before the league breaks into a split and then we play them again and all the other clubs in the top six too.

“We want to put this club back on top and our fans deserve it because they are fantastic. Every game at home we have a sell-out and they always fill their end at our away games.

“And that motivates us more. The least we can do for them is win a trophy.

“Rangers are a club who were used to winning – they have the most titles in the world. So to go through everything that happened here was not easy.”

It seems that the history lessons that Candeias has enjoyed have left out the word liquidation and over stated the importance of the Petrofac Cup.

Since formation in 2012 Sevco have had 11 opportunities to win a cup competition but have had to look on as teams like St Johnstone, Ross County, Hibs, Inverness Caley Thistle and St Mirren have lifted silverware while paying HMRC in full and on time.

Turning towards his international ambitions the winger, who turns 30 on Friday said: “My dream is to represent Portugal. I know it’s hard because we have great players and more and more are coming through, but I always have that thought I could make it.”
