Lennon: It’s personal

Neil Lennon had something for everyone yesterday.

Sky Sports viewers got a close up of his exchange with Kevin Clancy before the broadcasters half interested approach to Scottish football ended leaving viewers to wait for the watchable interview with the Hibs boss.

On Radio Scotland Lennon was in great form, articulating his anger perfectly. Sending referees off was a good throw away line but highlighting the penalty that Clancy never gave in their match against Sevco got the point over.

The ordering off incident and Radio Scotland interview were all over social media before the Hibs bus left Rugby Park.

Everyone knew about the incidents and reaction but Lennon had another golden line for the newspapers- it is personal between him and Clancy.

John Fleming faces a very difficult task explaining this one, when he calls Lennon to Hampden he’ll go along with a dvd showing two penalty incidents in matches against Sevco and Kilmarnock.

Laying out his defence Lennon told the Daily Mail: “I’m probably looking at a ban and that is down to incompetence and guesswork. It’s impossible for him to give that. I think he’s guessed.

“It’s hit Ryan here (gestures to chest). The ball is going a mile wide as well. We’ve seen it again and he can’t see it from the angle he’s at.

This is the same referee who didn’t given us a clear handball against Rangers at Easter Road.

As for me being sent off without really being over-critical of the decision at the time, he’s made it personal because I criticised him after the Easter Road game. I am not happy with him at all.

To send me off, I’m far from happy. And then I can’t do my job for the last half hour.

Why can’t we send referees off when they are so blatantly ruining the game?

I don’t want him refereeing us again this season but I probably won’t get my way on that.”

If it isn’t personal between Lennon and Clancy perhaps he’s just not a very good referee.

Early last season following heavy criticism from Chris Sutton Craig Thomson ignored BT Sport through his next match and started the match forcing the broadcaster to cut short an advertising break.

With his place on the FIFA list Clancy has just handed Fleming and the SFA a massive problem.
