Chris Sutton wasn’t in the mood to sweet talk Celtic’s 3-0 Europa League defeat from Zenit St Petersburg tonight.
The BT Sport pundit was co-commentator for the defeat which brought to a halt Celtic’s hopes of a run in the Europa League.
Towards the end of the match Sutton claimed that the Celtic players had bottled it with the former striker echoing the views of many fans.
.@btsportfootball Celtic froze in Saint Petersburg..out of Europe… 3-0 to Zenit.. Let’s get it right too many players lacked the courage tonight and the goalkeeper had a shocker again… De Vries doesn’t make saves??

It’s alright giving praise when things go well! But when it’s bad what do you want me to say? https://t.co/w0vsnKAmkO

I don’t understand how in 7 days after such a great performance the team can perform that badly… they froze https://t.co/Ehv5cRreyt

Freezing…. I was part of some really poor displays notably Anderlecht away… but some good ones as well! But let’s not pretend that was good because it wasn’t! If you’re happy with the performance I suggest you need to raise the bar… https://t.co/MaDBmpxOSI

Sutton has built a reputation for having strong opinions and wasn’t prepared to water down his views just seven days after praising Celtic’s first leg victory.
Zenit equalised through Branislav Ivanovic from the first corner of the game then doubled their lead before the half hour mark when Dorus de Vries failed to follow a shot from Daler Kuzyaev.
Celtic looked dead and buried at that stage, when Aleksandr Kokorin scored the third on the hour mark there was no way back with Brendan Rodgers’ side dead and buried long before the final whistle.
