David Tanner made a surprise return to the telly on Saturday as he joined BT Sport for their coverage of the Kilmarnock v Celtic match.

For over a decade Tanner was the face of Sky Sports Scottish football coverage but at the end of last season his contract wasn’t renewed with Hayley McQueen taking over alongside Kris Commons and Kris Boyd.

There had been reports that the former STV man would be joining BT Sport but there was no evidence of that until he popped up at Rugby Park for pre and post match interviews with both managers.

BT had their top team out at the match with Chris Sutton as co-commentator while Alan Stubbs and Ally McCoist provided the half-time and full-time analysis.

The current SPFL telly deals run until 2020 with Sky Sports having first option with the majority of the fixtures having outbid ESPN.

BT Sport are expected to make a major pitch for the next broadcasting contract which is likely to be for three seasons.
