Graeme Murty is standing by Alfredo Morelos despite the sitter than send social media into stitches of laugher.

The £10m rated striker was well within the six yard box at Somerset Park when he manage to send a tap in high over the bar.

As the Ayr supporters laughed at Morelos video clips of the miss went viral on social media with some believed to have reached China.

Murty told The Sun: “We’ve always said Alfredo misses chances – but you have to be there to miss them and it took a high level of technique to finish like he did at his first goal.

I’d have side-footed the hell out of it rather than lash it like he did – I’d have been properly safe, but that’s the measure of a striker as opposed to a defender.

He was the optimist and I’m the pessimist. He finished it well and I’m pleased.”

Despite the early howler, and an equally embarrassing moment for Wes Foderingham that presented Ayr with the opener, Sevco ran out 6-1 winners to reach the last eight.

A home tie with Falkirk should keep their season alive until April at least as the full impact of their loan facility with Close Brothers begins to take root.

The three bears gave up on further funding earlier in the season with Dave King failing to come up with the money promised to Campbell Dallas in the audited accounts.

With an interest rate reported at 30% Close Brothers have the security of the iconic Albion Car Park if Sevco fail to repay their £3m plus interest loan from season ticket money.
