High level talks have been held about a complete overhaul of the SFA for the start of the 2020/21 season.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the frustrations that have grown under the leadership of Stewart Regan who recently ‘resigned’ with the pay off of a years salary are ready to bear fruit.

With the old guard of Rod Petrie and Allan McRae getting their way with the appointment of Alex McLeish the reformers are set to push through change.

Regan’s credibility died when he forecast social unrest with a club from Ibrox no longer in the top flight but somehow he survived in post for almost another six years.

Last week’s media conference to introduce McLeish was a classic embarrassment with McRae bungling his way through a brief media appearance and refusing to answer any questions as he posed with the new international manager.

Speaking to a source the Daily Mail report: “Decisions must be made in the short term for medium and long-term benefit.

The SFA can regain some control by the appointment of a very strong, outstanding chief executive but the more likely scenario is that it loses its power to the clubs.”

There has been a growing feeling that the SPFL (professional clubs) are looking to have a greater influence on the game blowing away the network of committees that produce Presidents like McRae, Campbell Ogilvie and George Peat.

The next battleground will be the appointment of a new chief executive who will have to work alongside McRae, McLeish and Petrie at least in the short term.

McRae, Petrie and Andrew Dickson were all heavily involved in the decision to grant Rangers (IL) a UEFA licence in 2011, the SFA Compliance Officer has been investigating that issue for over five months.
