Mention the name of Mo Bangura and Celtic fans will shake their head, trying to forget an unfortunate time with the ‘striker’ the low-light in a depressing line of strikers who couldn’t strike.

A year into Neil Lennon’s reign as manager and a fresh striking option was required to compliment and compete with Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper.

Who better to offer a helping hand than Henrik Larsson, identifying an up and coming young striker from Sweden. What could go wrong? Or what would go right.

On his debut against Motherwell there was some gasps at his first touch but we put that down to that trusted excuse of adjusting to the pace of Scottish football.

Despite his pedigree of scoring seven goals in 19 appearances for AIK Solna it was obvious that there was something amiss.

We never got to see if he had a strikers instinct because he never got close to goal, there were no Morelos type sitters to agonise over.

A Europa League tie at home to Udinese offered some hope, he looked fairly competent but the season ended without a goal being scored with a return, on loan to AIK Solna providing four goals.

Another loan was arranged for the 2013 season as Celtic attempted the out of sight out of mind policy, this time to Elfsborg where his seven goals helped to win the Swedish title.

That set up one of the strangest scenarios for the 2014 season when Bangura was involved in a tug-of-war with Elfsborg playing the hoops reject against his parent club in a Champions League qualifier.

Celtic eased past on a 1-0 aggregate but Neil Lennon was unforgiving with the striker’s fragile prospects in Glasgow dead and buried.

A meandering career then took off featuring stop off’s with ?stanbul Basaksehir of Turkey, AIK (again) and Chinese side Dalian Yifang.

Goals remained elusive before he returned again to Sweden, spending last season with Dalkurd.

On Saturday the bold Mo made his first appearance of 2018, playing for 54 minutes as Sierra Leone lost 4-0 away to World Cup Finalists Iran in front of 4,000 fans in Tehran.

Who knows what the next entry will be in Mo’s diary.
