Barry Ferguson has warned Celtic that the ‘Rangers’ are coming.
The midweek postponement of Celtic’s match against Dundee has sent delusions off the radar with plans underway for street parties in Larkhall and Kilwinning on March 11.
Under Brendan Rodgers Celtic have lost two domestic matches in 19 months but despite suffering home defeats from Hibs, St Johnstone and Hamilton it seems that Murty only has to slip into his club blazer next Sunday to claim three points.
Next week the delusions will reach fever pitch with Ferguson putting in an early pitch ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie against Falkirk.
“Since Rangers got back up the leagues I have not looked forward to a single Old Firm encounter,” he admitted to the Daily Record. “If anything I have dreaded them all but this time I honestly can’t wait for the action to begin because my old team are finally looking like a Rangers side are supposed to.
“On top of that this is the most important Old Firm game there has been in the last six or seven years because there is a possibility Rangers could win it and cut the gap at the top to just three points. And who knows what might happen after that?
“It’s there for Rangers to go and grasp it. There is a word that springs to mind when I’ve watched them lately – ruthless.
“That’s something I’ve not said about Rangers for a long, long time. They’re also full of energy and drive and that will cause Celtic no end of problems because the champions look like a side with not much left in the tank.”
Unfortunately for Ferguson the Murty Revolution has been built around four loan signings and a £3m emergency loan from Close Brothers.
When the season comes to a halt Murphy, Goss, Martin and Cummings will return south of the border while the first £3.5m of season ticket money will go to pay off the loan.
Ferguson’s old club died trying to keep up with Celtic, sadly the tribute act is heading in the same direction with their anything goes policy to stop the tax payers from the east end.
