Brendan Rodgers has neatly side stepped Bary Ferguson’s claim that he got lucky at Ibrox.

The Celtic boss has had plenty of criticism this season, often from hoops supporters, but has shown his quality time and time again.

Two domestic defeats in 20 months in charge have taken Celtic to within seven matches of a double treble with the stock of Rodgers rising after the win at Ibrox.

While Celtic’s defending left a lot to be desired, at the heart of the battle Rodgers came up with the right choices to turn the loss of a player into a positive with a match winning contribution coming off the bench.

Responding to the delusions of Ferguson isn’t required with the hoops boss dismissing the views of the Daily Record columnist.

Today’s Record reports Rodgers saying: “Listen, Barry Ferguson is someone I don’t know. I’ve never met him so I can’t comment on him. I only know him as a player and I had great respect for him as a player.

He clearly is very much Rangers, which I respect, and a Celtic win can hurt very much but I think most supporters would admire our team and how we won, and I mean both sides, would not say we were lucky.

In any game of football there is always an element of luck. But I would think even Rangers supporters wouldn’t say that, if you look at how we played and what we had to go through in the game.”

After his side’s win at Ibrox Rodgers is looking towards Sunday’s visit to Motherwell and the chance to take a big step towards the title.

Jozo Simunovic misses out through suspension but the hoops boss has Mikael Lustig back again after the Swede was banned from the win at Ibrox.
