Lee McCulloch was encouraged by Sevco’s 3-2 defeat from Celtic on Sunday.

The former Kilmarnock manager watched the action from Ibrox with pride as his old club twice took the lead before losing out to the champions.

It seems that the reality of Sunday’s defeat has still to set in even though Graeme Murty admitted that his side will never get a better chance to beat the champions.

Discussing the five goal thriller with the Evening Times McCulloch said: “I am not so sure Celtic’s players are so much better than Rangers. For me, the timing of Celtic’s second goal more than anything affected the Rangers players.

It was right on half-time, made it 2-2 and the moment the ball went in the net I thought ‘oh, no….here we go.’

These goals do change games. Celtic went into the break on a high, whereas the Rangers would have felt down. Honestly, goals like that have a huge effect. You can even feel it in the stands.

“I just think the best is yet to come from this Rangers team.”

Unfortunately for McCulloch logic says that it’s not going to get any better for ‘this Rangers team’.

Jason Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings will return to their parent clubs while rising star David Bates and Kenny Miller are out of contract.

After repaying £4m of season ticket money to Close Brothers whoever is in charge will be expected to reach the group phase of the Europa League and stop eigh-in-a-row.
