Scotland trust in Cummings

Since he joined Sevco on loan we’ve been told what a cheeky chappie Jason Cummings is. He is ‘gallus’ and a lovable rogue.

It seems that that is all that is required to get a place in the Scotland international squad.

Cummings will be 23 and August and has still to score a goal in the top flight.

Scoring for fun at Hibs equated to one goal in the English Championship for Nottingham Forest before new boss Aitor Karanka decided to do without his services.

As stand-in for Alfredo Morelos Cummings has still to score in the SPFL Premiership although he did try to steal the credit for an own goal from Harry Souttar of Ross County.

Nadir Ciftci has scored more top flight goals this season but there is no clamour to find out if he has a Scottish bloodline.

Nevertheless it seems that a bit of banter and some fun tattoos is enough to earn an international call up under Alex McLeish regime.

Jason can be a bit of a maverick,” the Scotland manager told The Sun. “He’s young and he has that wee bit of gallusness you would want to have in every single player.

I said to James McFadden ‘Do you see a bit of you in him?’. He admitted he did a wee bit, aye.

Of course it’s good to have that type around. The dressing-room culture is about banter.

Jason is one of the livelier ones around the place and the players respond to that.”

Scotland face Costa Rica at Hampden tonight with just over 20,000 expected to turn up to watch the start of the new regime.
