Sevco fans are being fed the comforting news that Frank de Boer is the bookies favourite to be manager next season.

Since losing 3-2 at home to Celtic last month Graeme Murty’s prospects have been dismissed with Dave King virtually confirming that news yesterday in his rallying call to season ticket holders.

Managing Sevco is now even less attractive than when Derek McInnes knocked the job back in November but there is a desperate need to prop up the big club image.

Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Murty all belong to the project category but a higher profile manager and the promise of a war-chest will be needed to ensure that the gullibles cough up for season tickets.

Reassuringly, unless you are Murty, the Daily Record reports: “Betting firm BetVictor were quick to react as they opened a market for next permanent manager at Rangers with Dutchman de Boer out in front at 3/1.

That’s despite his last managerial appointment – at Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace – lasting just five matches before he was sacked in September after 77 days in charge.”

Before his disastrous spell at Palace de Boer was in charge of Inter Milan for 85 days after establishing himself at Ajax where he won three Dutch titles.

With King demanding instant success the next manager will be expected to topple Brendan Rodgers on less than a third of the salary enjoyed by the Celtic boss.
