McLeish’s pain

Alex McLeish wants to see a stronger ‘Rangers’ for the good of Scottish football!

Perhaps the Scotland manager could suggest a tax scam that would allow the Ibrox club to attract better players than they can currently afford?

Despite the emergence of new international players at Hibs, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock it seems that McLeish can’t look beyond events at Ibrox.

Celtic’s 9-0 aggregate over two matches against the tribute act was a reminder of just how financially doped the club that McLeish managed used to be.

Since they were founded by Charles Green in 2012 millions of pounds have been thrown at Joey Barton, Nico Kranjcar, Bruno Alves, Pip Senderos and Eduardo Herrera while other clubs have worked to develop players capable of playing for Scotland.

Despite his new remit across the whole of the Scottish game McLeish seems locked in the ‘Old Firm’ mindset that killed his old club.

Rangers have got some good players but they need more to compete with Celtic,” the Scotland manager told Sky Sports.

“It is not a level playing field at the moment. I’m sure that Celtic will improve with a better Rangers team. Also the whole of Scottish football will improve with a better Rangers team.

“You have to respect what they [Rangers] are saying, they feel they’re on course in terms of what’s going on in the background.

“It is not for me or anybody else to dispute that so let’s hope that we see an emerging and much stronger Rangers team for the sake of the Scottish game.”

During his lengthy spell on the managerial scrapheap McLeish was interviewed for the Sevco vacancy but lost out to Pedro Caixinha.
