SPFL title confusion

Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Dundee has thrown a fresh spanner into the works of the SPFL ‘computer’ as it plans the post split fixtures.

Full points for Brendan Rodgers’ side would have made things a little more clear cut but the draw leaves Celtic nine points away from clinching the flag.

With Celtic due to play three home matches after the split, in a home away home format, the hoops coulld be heading to Edinburgh for a clincher for the third season running.

Much will depend on the weekend fixtures when Celtic go to Hamilton the day after Aberdeen face Hearts at Tynecastle.

If both teams take full points the SPFL will safely be able to schedule the Glasgow derby as the first post split fixture, probably with a Saturday lunchtime slot which would allow Celtic to move 13 points ahead of Aberdeen with the Dons having five matches left to play.

A defeat for Aberdeen in their first post split fixture would give Celtic the title or more likely Brendan Rodgers’ side can win it in their second match away to Hibs or Hearts.

With Aberdeen at Celtic Park in the third fixture it could all be wrapped up by then or the hoops can clinch their seventh title against Derek McInnes’ side.
