Sutton’s incredible warning to Gerrard

Chris Sutton has warned Steven Gerrard that his stint at Ibrox could be over by Christmas if he decides to take on the most treacherous gigs on the planet.

Writing in the Daily Record the former Celtic striker is at his very best slaughtering the Ibrox board for appointing the spineless Mark Warburton and describing Pedro Caixinha as a circus act.

Three days of constant speculation have whipped Sevco fans into a frenzy and successfully blocked out the fear of tomorrow’s trip to Celtic Park.

Dave King’s PR team have pulled off a master stroke- so far- with supporters ready to forget seven home defeats and a Europa League defeat from the fourth best team in Luxembourg to renew season tickets.

Yesterday very few of the gullible even noticed that the South African based criminal had failed another deadline to make an offer to shareholders and avoid the full force of penalties from the Court of Session.

Tattoo artists from Larkhall to Kilwinning are currently attempting to avoid spelling out Stephen Gerard as Stevie G mania distracts the gullible from Mr Murty’s attempts to avoid fourth place in a two horse race.

In the Daily Record Sutton warned: “Rangers boss has to be one of the most treacherous gigs on the planet and I cannot imagine for the life of me what benefit he would see in moving to Ibrox right now.

It’s an absolute nightmare. The most poisoned chalice around. No stability at the club, no leadership, no players worth much at his disposal and the task of trying to overhaul a Celtic team packed full of stars, with a burgeoning bank balance and a manager who is at the peak of his powers.

Gerrard could finish his managerial career before it even really starts if he chooses to accept the offer made to him. The club is in a terrible state, they have a squad of under-achievers who start giving lip to a coach when things aren’t going their way, they are not very good and there are too many of them.

In Glasgow, second is last. And Rangers might not even finish second this season. Across the city, Gerrard’s former manager Brendan Rodgers has Celtic charging into the distance with little chance of being caught.

Seriously, what would Gerrard need to mount a challenge? About £30million? He is not going to get that. Not even close, so he’d be coming to Scotland to be battered out of sight without any experience at all of a senior management role to call upon if things start going wrong.”

Sutton added: “The Rangers board appointed someone spineless in Mark Warburton. They then brought in Pedro Caixinha, who had experience but was basically a circus act for the majority of the time he was in Scotland.

Now they have rookie Murty in charge as a caretaker and he is going to followed by another one as the permanent manager? Honestly, you couldn’t make this up.

If the Ibrox fans fall for this short-term idea, they need to have a serious word with themselves. Appointing Gerrard would be all about short-termism. It’s great PR. Dave King would be salivating.

Think about it. A huge batch of fans would love the idea. The TV channels would be blasting out about the club non-stop and the punters would flock to the stadium.

Season tickets would fly off the shelves, scarves and jerseys with Gerrard’s image all over them would be out of stock within a day.

The tills would be ringing off the hook and King would get the coffers filled again for another season but then what? It goes wrong again and they are left trying to find another manager by Christmas. Listen, maybe I’ve got this all wrong. Gerrard was a magnificent player and he might turn out to be a magical manager.”

Maybe Craig Whyte really is a billionaire and the South African authorities have simply misjudged the son of a Castlemilk policeman.
