The campaign to undermine Graeme Murty has today turned to Stuart McCall.
Bradford City sacked McCall after he started 2018 with six defeats on the bounce with the former Scotland midfielder having a brief spell in the Ibrox hot-seat.
That ended with a 6-1 play-off defeat from Motherwell with Dave King ditching the caretaker in favour of Mark Warburton
Derek Johnstone, Ally McCoist and Barry Ferguson have all questioned whether Murty is the man to lead Sevco next season just weeks after the former Reading favourite was on the brink of toppling Celtic.
“The current uncertainty takes away Graeme’s ability to go into the dressing room and make, threats isn’t the right word, I prefer demands,” McCall explained to the Daily Record.
“It depends what type of character you are. He’s not able to say that unless there’s improvements then Player A or Player B won’t be at Rangers next season.
“That’s because ultimately he’s not making these decisions at this moment in time.
“If he had a two year contract then it would be different, he could then have some push and be able to make these demands on players regarding long-term things.
“He is still the Rangers manager but he can’t promise things to individuals as the players know he might not be there at the end of the season.”
After Derek McInnes rejected a move to Ibrox Murty was put in charge of Sevco until the end of the season but the January transfer window only brought in Greg Docherty on a permanent deal.
No other obvious candidate has emerged since McInnes said no with the main requirement of the next boss being to convince supporters to shell out for season tickets as quickly as possible.
