William Hill have called in Archie MacPherson to provide a retro nineties commentary of Celtic’s 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Sevco!

Two decades ago with an unlimited overdraft from the Bank of Scotland Dave Murray was able to bring in the biggest names in England with various schemes used to top up their through the books wages.

In contrast Celtic discovered that darkest of times in the early nineties- having to wait until 1995 for their first trophy.

A year earlier Fergus McCann resisted the temptation to bump 276 creditors, paid them all in full including the then tax authority Inland Revenue.

Slowly Celtic rebuilt, against incredible odds they won the then Scottish League title in 1997/98 but there were no more Scottish Cup successes until Martin O’Neill’s side completed the treble with a 3-0 win over Hibs in 2001.

Back in the nineties a 4-0 semi-final win over a club from Ibrox would have been laughed off by any sensible witness of the Scottish game.

The Sevco club are still waiting for their first major honour although winning the 2016 Petrofac Challenge Cup was wildly celebrated.
