King’s bizarre boast

Dave King has ruled out another Sevco summer clear-out.

According to the Sevco chairman Steven Gerrard will be inhering a squad that as recently as March was the best in Scotland.

It seems that finishing third in the Florida Cup plus high scoring wins over Ayr United and Falkirk has convinced King that the current squad isn’t far away from winning the SPFL title.

At the start of March Sevco fans and players were delighted to be drawn against Celtic in the Scottish Cup but since that cheer went up things have gone badly wrong at Ibrox.

Speaking to the in-house TV station King said: “I think if we look at the team and my personal view is I think the team is better than they are playing.

If you look at the way the team played when they came back from the Florida trip, they were playing really well – they were the best team in Scotland for that period.

“It kind of fell apart a little bit after the home game against Celtic, it lost its way a little bit but I think Steven understands it’s about winning games, he understands this club is about winning games.

If we can get back to winning games, getting players on board with the right character to play for Rangers and who are not intimidated by playing in front of 50,000 people at Ibrox.

If he starts to get that right with the playing squad and with some further additions coming into the squad, then it’s about winning games and if we keep on winning games then we will also win titles.”

With two matches left to play Sevco are the third best team in the country, trailing champions Celtic and Aberdeen and two points ahead of newly promoted Hibs.

In their final two matches Sevco travel to Aberdeen and Hibs hoping to avoid finishing fourth in the table.

Mr King is expected to host a media conference on Monday.
