Alex McLeish turned their airwaves blue during BBC Scotland’s coverage of the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

The Scotland boss is an experienced media operator but has appeared even more hesitant in recent appearances.

Many managers are incapable of completing a sentence off air without the f-word but when the camera or microphone is present their language changes entirely.

Celtic’s 2-0 lead was clearly troubling the man who led Rangers (IL) to the 2003 treble with a squad full of ineligible players that are now being hit with tax demands.

Showing his concern at the way that first half had gone McLeish explained: “Stevie’s (Motherwell boss Robinson) probably sent them out there will all guns f***ing blazing.

“And then that goal knocked the stuffing out of them.”

It certainly seemed to knock the stuffing out of McLeish with television viewers stunned by the comment.

The second half didn’t get any better for the Scotland boss as Celtic cruised through to the final whistle as Brendan Rodgers’ side made history.

Across social media viewers were stunned by McLeish’s language with no attempt at an apology from the state broadcaster.

After five years without a UK management job McLeish was appointed as Scotland boss earlier this year after the SFA were turned down by Michael O’Neill and Walter Smith.

During his time in charge at Ibrox McLeish was paid £1.7m in disguised remuneration that the club claimed was EBT payments.
