Celtic have stepped up their interest in John McGinn.

According to a vague report in The Sun the midfielder has been placed on a list of potential targets by Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic boss commented favourably on McGinn more than a year ago but already has plenty of midfield options.

Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham were the first picks at the end of the season with Callum McGregor, Stuart Armstrong, Eboue Koussai and Nir Bitton also offering options in that area.

Should any of those players leave Rodgers may look to bring someone in but it would be a big risk to McGinn if he decided to move to a club where there are currently six players competing for two positions.

Although he caught the eye with three goals at Celtic Park and Ibrox last season he only managed to score five in 35 appearances.

Scott Allan could be offered to Hibs in any deal but that is unlikely to be a big factor in a move for McGinn who is out of contract next summer.
