Donald Findlay thinks that Sevco should have gone for three current EPL bosses rather than appoint Steven Gerrard as manager.

The Cowdenbeath chairman had a stint as vice-chairman of the old Rangers club under David Murray before he resigned as his hatred of Catholics was exposed on video.

Findlay has kept a close eye on matters off the park at Ibrox in recent times and successfully defended Craig Whyte against fraud charges last summer.

Despite that insight to the troubles at the club he believes that Sean Dyche, Eddie Howe or Rafa Benitez should have been given the task of stopping Celtic from winning eight-in-a-row.

Steven Gerrard is a gamble,” Findlay told The Scotsman.”I would have gone for more experience and banged on Sean Dyche’s door or Eddie Howe’s and said: ‘This is Rangers, you can be kings here.’ Or, though I don’t know if he would have moved, said to Rafa Benitez, ‘Come and look at Ibrox’, and taken him straight to the trophy room. All that history and tradition.”

Most EPL managers will be on a basic wage of £3m a year with a bonus of at least £1m on offer for avoiding relegation.

With no money for players at Ibrox there is more chance of Benitez taking over at Cowdenbeath than at Sevco.
