Celtic fans were delighted to see SV Hamburg relegated for the first time from the Bundesliga.
Despite winning 2-1 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach it wasn’t enough as their 54 year stay in the top flight came to an end.
With two minutes of the match remaining Hamburg ultras set off a number of flares, on and off the park but with a heavy police presence the match was completed.
With Wolfsburg beating Cologne it was too little too late for the club that as been continuously in the Bundesliga since it’s formation in 1963.

When St Pauli fans started following Celtic in the late eighties Hamburg supporters decided to support the old Rangers club just as they were running into their most successful domestic spell.
In 2009 Celtic and Hamburg were drawn in the same Europa League group with no love lost between both sets of supporters.
Before the match in Germany the Hamburg supporters unfurled a banner stating ‘NO SURRENDER’ today they did with next season bringing two derby clashes against St Pauli to look forward to.
Sevco defender David Bates has signed a four year contract for Hamburg.
