Steven Gerrard has called a full house in Sevco bingo after being appointed manager of the ailing Ibrox club.

In a statement lasting just 49 words the former Liverpool skipper mentioned history, tradition and many successes as his appointment was confirmed.

He told the club website: “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.

I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.”

Gerrard has signed a four year contract but will leave the three remaining matches of this season to Jimmy Nicholl to soldier on.

While he talks about history and success the former Liverpool skipper will find a club that has won the Challenge Cup once in it’s six troubled years.

Over £20m of debt has been racked up on the journey with an emergency loan taken out from Close Brothers to see out the season.

Gerrard’s appointment has been made solely to shift season tickets with sales sluggish on the back of two more hammerings from Celtic.

Around 300 fans had gathered at Ibrox when the announcement was made with the new arrival giving Sports Direct and Puma a late boost in merchandise sales.

In July Sevco will start their contract with Hummell allowing them to cash in on Gerrard mania before the reality of the new season kicks off with a squad requiring a complete turnover.
