Sevco are facing an expensive pay-off to ditch Eduardo Herrera.

A year ago the tribute act splashed out £2m to sign the striker from Mexican giants Puma with a three year contract awarded to the player.

After scoring just two goals and falling behind Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings the player is interested in a return to Mexico but without a pay cut.

Mexican website GOAL claims that Pumas would be interested in resigning the 29-year-old but matching his Ibrox wages wouldn’t be possible.

With two years still to run on his contract Sevco won’t find anyone to match Herrera’s wages which is similar to the Carlos Pena deal.

‘Gullit’ was sent on loan to Cruz Azul for a year but even Pedro Caixinha has given up on the midfielder after a string of disciplinary issues.

Last summer Sevco were alleged to have spent £10m on new talent but other than Danny Candeas and Morelos they’ve been lumbered with misfits on expensive contracts.

So far the magic of Steven Gerrard hasn’t attracted a single player with Director of Football Mark Allen responsible for the signings of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy.

Gerrard officially takes up his new job on June 1.
