Mikael Lustig likes to call things as he sees them.

The Swede has had his eyes opened after six years in Scottish football.

On one level he enjoys the best of the best at Lennoxtown and Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers makes the highest demands.

Elsewhere he has to play on plastic pitches geared for round the clock use as Hamilton Accies and Kilmarnock forfeit a decent surface in order to keep their clubs afloat.

Hearts have no such cash problems but the club that can afford to take Steven Naismith on loan was unable or unwilling to cut the grass as they tried to grind Celtic to a halt.

Teams try to do everything to get points, but I just hope Scottish football can see things and make some changes,” Lustig told The Sun.

We went away to Hearts and played on grass that was really long and really dry.

We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we won and I think we proved ourselves.

If Scotland wants to have good players and make it to big tournaments, they need to have players who can play football and not just play on a s****y pitch and try to get a point.

I think it is a rule in the Champions League about how long the grass can be. I don’t think they have that here in Scotland and it is maybe something to look at.

Should there be a rule about the height of the grass? Absolutely. I think so.

We always want to develop players and show the Scottish League has good footballers.

I understand some clubs don’t have the money to spend and I can’t talk about that. They are doing everything they can to keep the club going so they use astroturf.

I’m from Sweden and have played on a lot of different astroturf. Some of them are good and some of them are s***. The pitches at Hamilton and Kilmarnock are s***.”

While most of his team-mates can hit the beach after the Scottish Cup Final next Saturday Lustig has the World Cup Finals in Russia to prepare for.

Sweden have been drawn in Group F alongside Germany, Mexico and South Korea.
