Brendan Rodgers won’t get involved in the phoney race for second place.

As Celtic prepare to pick up the SPFL trophy for a seventh successive season Aberdeen and Sevco are involved in the shake up for second place.

Both clubs will be entitled to play in the Europa League, licence issues permitting, alongside Hibs provided Celtic beat Motherwell in the Scottish Cup.

While the points gap at the top has narrowed there is no doubt about how far in front Celtic are of their token challengers.

In seven SPFL matches against Aberdeen and Sevco the hoops have scored 18 times for the loss of two goals with 19 points picked up out of 21.

Rather than salute the champions in the build up to the Scottish Cup Final it seems that the interest of many is on who will finish ‘best of the rest’.

We’d like to go into the final with a win,” Rodgers told The Sun. “The most important thing was that we won the league but we want to finish well. If we go through the weekend and don’t lose, that will be two years without losing a game at home.

That is remarkable really in terms of how the players are, the number of games we play and the good opponents that we play.

There’s that to think about but, in the bigger picture, we want to perform well and normally when we do that we win the game.

But we know Aberdeen will come with a motivation. So we’ll expect another tough game.

All the players know I trust them. All I ever say to them is to make sure they are physically right and we’ll have a plan for each game.”

The plan on Sunday is to see off Aberdeen and head to Hampden on a high with history to be made.
