Martin O’Neill has delivered a stinging criticism on the current team at Ibrox.

The former Celtic boss is usually very careful with his use of words and has disappointed many hoops fans with his opinion on the cheating through the EBT years.

O’Neill’s teams lost titles by a goal and a point to opponents rammed full with tax dodgers but the man from Derry has gone public with the ‘they won them on the pitch’ line.

The overwhelming majority of Celtic fans want every trophy won by ineligible players scorched from the record books to recognise the industrial scale cheating carried out to deny Celtic trophies, prize money and Champions League access.

Looking at more recent matters O’Neill believes that Steven Gerrard would be walking into a club in utter chaos if he took charge at Ibrox.

I hope he does (get the job), it would be nice to see him,” O’Neill told the Irish Independent. “I think he would be terrific for Rangers just at this stage because unquestionably it’s the worst side that has ever, ever played for Rangers at this minute.

They are so, so bad. They are worse than bad, they are dreadful! I think the only way is up for him, if that’s the case.”

O’Neill’s old Ibrox adversory, Alex McLeish believes that Scottish football needs a strong ‘Rangers’ even though the club he managed went into liquidation in 2012.
