Celtic have opened talks to provide Scott Bain with a permanent deal.

According to a report in the Daily Express Brendan Rodgers is keen to get the keeper signed up as back-up to Craig Gordon.

Bain became a hero when he made his debut in Celtic’s 3-2 win over Sevco at Ibrox in March after Dorus de Vries picked up an injury on the eve of the match.

The 26-year-old hadn’t played since October due to a fall out with Neil McCann and initially went on loan to Hibs before switching to Celtic on the final day of the January transfer window.

Bain’s Dundee deal runs out at the end of June with Hearts and Hibs plus a couple of English clubs keen to sign up the free agent.

So far Bain has made four first team appearances with that run halted when Craig Gordon returned to duty against Dundee with the on loan keeper unable to play against his parent club.
