Brendan Rodgers won’t be distracted by the noise from Ibrox and the bizarre claims of Dave King.

Speaking to a selected audience the Ibrox chief claimed that Celtic would crumble like a pack of cards once Sevco win the league once. King probably meant house of cards.

The claim was met with derision by hoops supporters as they looked at the state of play across the city after three years of the King regime.

With strong scouting, sponsorship and merchandising deals on top of massive ticket sales Celtic are robust enough to withstand missing out on playing in the group phase of the Champions League.

In two seasons in charge Rodgers hasn’t tasted defeat once from the tribute act and isn’t going to lose sleep worrying about the predictions of a South African based criminal.

“We always respect every team but I am not one to be looking over the fence at anyone else,” the Celtic boss told RTE.

“I don’t think of it too seriously either way to be honest. My focus is on Celtic, this is a huge job here.

“You always have to be aware of your competitors, you can’t be naive enough to not understand and have a little think of what the others are doing, but it is not something that is at the forefront of my mind. My focus is very much on our club.”

Celtic will have to get through four qualifying rounds to reach the group phase of the Champions League which results in a £370,000 bonus payment to every SPFL Premiership side.
