Steven Gerrard is ‘weighing up’ a swoop for John McGinn of Hibs according to the Daily Record.

It’s not clear whether the weighing up aspect involves deciding if the midfielder is better than Jason Holt, Andy Halliday, Greg Docherty, Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack or whether Sevco can match Hibs’ asking fee of £5m and the £50,000/week wages McGinn could expect to pick up in England.

Since arriving in a blaze of publicity seven days ago Gerrard hasn’t said a word on record about his Ibrox plans with major doubts over finding for his revolution.

On Monday Dave King claimed that a £6m rights issue was underway but there has been no official comment on that or support from other directors.

A number of glamorous names have been linked with a switch to Ibrox as the club attempt to push season ticket sales.

Gerrard will inherit the squads that failed Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha with players like Halliday and Holt contract to 2020 with Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera on huge wages for the same stretch.

McGinn is the grandson of former Celtic chairman Jack and is unlikely to be interested in a sideways step to Ibrox in the highly unlikely event that the tribute act could match the wages on offer from England.

Sevco play Hibs on Sunday who will have Scott Allan in midfield alongside McGinn and Dylan McGeogh.
