Alex McLeish, Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann and dozens of former Rangers (IL) employees have until Thursday to pay HMRC back.

According to a report in the Daily Record, Hector has set a May 31 deadline for those that were paid through the EBT scam which the Supreme Court ruled was simply disguised remuneration. If those involved don’t agree to repayment schemes action from HMRC will be stepped up.

Since the £5m signing of Ronald de Boer from Barcelona in 2000 through to the last days of Dave Murray’s regime the Ibrox club were able to attract players that they wouldn’t normally be able to afford thanks to secret payments made into offshore trusts.

While every other club in Scotland and in UEFA competitions had to make deductions from the salaries that paid players, stars such as Alex Rea, Billy Dodds, Steven Thompson and Kris Boyd cashed in with with just token National Insurance and Income Tax payments made.

Last July the Supreme Court ruled in favour of HMRC in the case with HMRC giving those involved until Thursday to settle their bill.

Almost 50 individuals benefited from the scam which brought the club millions in prize money and lucrative European runs.

Most of the players received side letters idemnifying them against any future liability but with the old club being liquidated those letters are now useless.
