Good-bye to Armstrong song

With Stuart Armstrong heading for Southampton it seems like a chapter is closing on Brendan Rodgers’ time at Celtic.

The re-birth of the midfielder during the winter and spring of the 2016/17 season was one of the key features of the Invincible season which was rightly captured in song.

Some fans were unconvinced about the ‘His Hair is Fine’ song but there’s no doubt that the efforts put in by the Green Brigade paid off. If you need a second opinion contact commuters on the Brussels or Munich underground.

That song captured a specific time in Celtic’s recent history as Rodgers’ side burst forward, afraid of no-one as they smashed records at will.

Armstrong embodied that feeling but as contract talks dragged on last summer a little of the love was lost, when a 12 month extension was agreed it seemed to be simply a stay of execution.

How he will fare in the EPL is open to question, his defensive strengths will be required more than goalscoring as he joins a club who will be happy to finish anywhere above bottom three in next season’s EPL.

That suited Virgil van Dijk as he strolled through it, time will tell if Armstrong’s career will benefit as much as his bank account by moving to the land of milk and honey.
