Steven Gerrard is on the verge of a striker crisis as rumours of interest in Alfredo Morelos resurface.

In January the former HJK Helsinki striker was the subject of £11m moonbeams with that price now halved.

On the back of the speculation Sevco handed Morelos an improved contract but as the goals dried up to be replaced by yellow cards doubts have grown about his commitment to Sevco.

Since last season ended Kenny Miller, Jason Cummings and Joe Dodoo have quit Ibrox leaving Gerrard with just Morelos and £2.5m misfit Eduardo Herrera to chose from with just four weeks to go before the Europa League first round qualifier.

Resolving the Morelos situation has become a priority as Ibrox ambassador Derek Johnstone explained in the Evening Times.

When he sits down with Morelos, he will want to know where his mind is at and where he sees himself next season and beyond.

Does he want to be here or does he not? If Morelos is humming and hawing, if he says he wants to play in England or abroad, then Rangers should sell him.

The last thing you need, and I am sure the last thing the managers wants, is somebody that is not happy and that you won’t get anything out of.

In that situation, if there is money on the table then you have to cash in. What if he stays, doesn’t perform and his value drops?

Rangers turned down offers from China for Morelos during the January transfer window and his form dipped in stages during the second half of the season.

It wasn’t an easy situation for him to handle and Rangers will be keen to avoid another saga, if you like, surrounding one of their most prized assets this summer.

If Morelos says to Steven that he wants to be part of his plans, that he is looking forward to working under him and that he is ready to play for him, then he stays and he looks to improve from his first season at Ibrox.

Anything other than that, he goes.

Sevco return for pre-season training today then fly out to Spain on Sunday as the Revolution picks up momentum.
