Brendan Rodgers could be tempted into selling Jozo Simunovic to Lille.

According to a report in the reliable Daily Mail the French side are interested in a £5m deal to sign the defender.

Simunovic only started 13 SPFL matches last season with Rodgers finishing the season with Dedryck Boyata and Kris Ajer as his first choice partnership in central defence.

Boyata’s absence due to Belgium’s involvement at the World Cup Finals will delay any further transfer activity but £5m for a player that has dropped down the pecking order is bound to be tempting.

Last autumn the Celtic boss spoke out about his frustrations over finding a reliable injury free central defensive partnership with Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry signed up during the January transfer window.

Ronny Deila signed Simunovic from Dinamo Zagreb in August 2015 as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk but the 23-year-old has been dogged by injuries and has only played once on an artificial pitch.

Simunovic started alongside Compper in central defence in Celtic’s opening pre-season match against Vorwarts.

Next season Hamilton Accies, Kilmarnock and Livingston will all have plastic pitches in the top flight.
