After Sky Sports ran with a story linking Sevco with a move for Steve Davis their transfer activity has been quickly diverted to Lassana Coulibaly.

Moving for Davis would tick many boxes with the 33-year-old struggling to keep his place at Southampton, Stuart Armstrong adding to that problem and 12 months left on his contract.

According to a report in The Sun interest in Davis has been dropped according to a ‘club insider’ with Coulibaly likely to pick up in a month what Davis would expect as his weekly wage.

The 22-year-old midfielder has won nine full caps for Mali who are 64th in the FIFA rankings.

Adding another EPL wage to the payroll looks like a no-no for Steven Gerrard with attention switching to Lassana Coulibaly who played 20 matches last season for Angers in the French league.

With Roma reserve Umar Sadiq also reportedly on his way to Ibrox on a season long loan it’s clear that Dave King’s transfer war-chest has been emptied.

The moves for Coulibaly and Sadiq either suggest incredibly in-depth scouting or a bargain basement scout has befriended Director of Football Mark Allen.

In the next couple of days it is likely to emerge that the prospect of playing under Gerrard was a ‘no-brainer’ for the Angers ace.

What is clear is that Gerrard’s incredible book of football contacts has been mothballed with no chance of Jermaine Defoe, Fernando Torres or Martin Skrtel joining the Revolution.

With two days left in the month there is no sign of King coming good with his recent promise of a £6m ‘rights issue’ to fund a summer signing spree.
