Anthony Ralston has admitted that he’s not sure if he’ll be at Celtic next season.

The defender started last season as deputy to Mikael Lustig and impressed Brendan Rodgers enough to play against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League with the experienced Swede helping out in central defence.

A week after facing Neymar he suffered a knee injury which effectively ended his season at Celtic although he did sign a new contract.

Ralston ended the season on loan at Dundee United but could face competition from a new signing with Celtic resuming pre-season training while Lustig is on World Cup duty with Sweden.

Going back into Celtic I’ll be hoping to push and show I can get in the team,” the defender told The Scotsman. “That will be my main aim.

If things don’t work out I’ll just have to see how things go. I’m looking forward to getting back in for pre-season, getting my head down and working again.”

Right-back will be one of the most closely watched positions in the Celtic side during the summer.

Ralston picking up on his form from a year ago would be the natural fit but being allowed out on loan to Dundee United surprised a lot of fans.

At the moment the 19-year-old is on Scotland u-21 duty but there’s little doubt that pre-season training at Celtic will be a crucial period in his development.
