Steven Gerrard has admitted that Sevco can’t afford to match the wages that Lucas Levia is on at Lazio.

On the back of the euphoria created by Gerrard’s appointment it was assumed that Lucas and Martin Skrtel would be among the first to volunteer to be part of the Revolution.

The lure of playing under the former Liverpool youth coach would be more important that the wages on offer but Skrtel’s agent knocked that idea for six.

The Fenerbahce defender had no interest in taking an 80% pay cut with Sevco turning to cut price Croat Nikola Katic to shore up their defence.

Transfer fees have been paid for two of Gerrard’s SEVEN signings with the former Liverpool u-18 coach admitting that Lucas was out of his league when it came to the wages he collects at Lazio.

Speaking to the Daily Record he said: “It is not possible. Lucas has just got Player of the Year for Lazio and I’m sure his wages are very, very high, and very, very good for him. I don’t think that one is possible.”

Sevco are in talks with Roma about getting striker Umar Sadiq on loan for a season without a loan fee being paid.
