Sevco have been linked with a swoop for Jon Flanagan.

Both the Daily Record and The Sun report on the move from their reports covering the pre-season work out in Spain.

In January Flanagan was given a 12 month Community Order after a court was shown CCTV coverage of what was described as a prolonged assault on his girlfriend at 3.20am on Friday December 22.

Four years ago the right-back just missed out on a place at the World Cup Finals in Brazil but following the assault charge he has been released despite still having 12 months to run on his contract.

The 25-year-old has only made 40 starting appearances for Liverpool in the EPL and finished last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.

Picking Flanagan up on a free transfer using the lure of working with Gerrard would allow Sevco to sell James Tavernier with a couple of Championship sides reportedly keen to pay close to £1m for the former Wigan starlet.

After the excitement and hype that accompanied the arrival of Gerrard the financial reality is that he is now scraping around the bargain basement that produced Tavernier, Marrtyn Waghorn and Andy Halliday.
