Celtic and Hibs fans have taken to twitter to debate the merits of John McGinn.
With a third bid for the midfielder turned down the Edinburgh side are playing a dangerous game with just two weeks to go before the English transfer window closes.
If there are no offers from down south there appears to be only two options left to Rod Petrie- accept an offer for Celtic or watch a £2m asset leave for free next summer. Just like Dylan McGeouch.
Good work from Hibs telling the Celtic board to stick their biscuit tin up their thieving jacksies #stillgotMcGinn pic.twitter.com/asmRp1QTWn

If Celtic dont meet the asking price and McGinn stays for another year who knows what Hibs might do this season.

You’ll lose out on a wedge though. And he might be under motivated.
If not, and he performs strongly, the difference between finishing 4th and 2nd is only about £400k.
If a cash rich English side wants him, they can make him a very wealthy young fellow and your club happy.

Aye good one. He’ll sign for free on a pre-contract in January.Thats gettin they weegies telt ya radge.

If wishes were fishes we’d awe be eatin the morra.Hibs are a great club but sometimes……..???. 2m for a player running down his contract? How is that a bad deal.

With Scott Allan saga Hibs told The Rangers to basically fuck off & they’ve not come back again sniffing at our players. Now Hibs board are telling Celtic you pay our valuation or do one. Same rules apply. No more players on the cheap.

Same board let Dylan McGeough go for Nada.Posturing is a Sevco trait, not to be confused with actual business acumen.

Hibs not bothered about Allan anymore. Mallan has replaced him. Mallan and McGinn could make a great midfield partnership for us this season. If celtic want McGinn stump up. Loving Hibs playing hardball.

Defo mate we will just take him for heehaw that sounds better to me

Get him for £500k in January or nothing in June or take £2m now. Decisions decisions

SFA committee man Petrie has the reputation of being a tough negotiator but that was based on deals a decade ago when two Scottish clubs had cheque books.
Celtic are now the only worthwhile buyer in the Scottish game with the Midas touch of Petrie under threat after seeing McGeouch move to Sunderland for nothing.
Another factor not being highlighted is the benefit Hibs have enjoyed from having Celtic players on loan over the last couple of seasons.
McGeouch, Liam Henderson, Anthony Stokes and Scott Allan have contributed massively over the last three seasons, if pig headedness comes into play Hibs will have to look elsewhere this season to bolster their squad.
