Motherwell have launched a campaign to have Phil O’Donnell inducted into the Scottish football Hall of Fame.

The midfielder was a member of the Fir Park side that won the 1991, scoring in the 4-3 win over Dundee United, then tragically died playing against the same club on 29 December 2007.

In-between times O’Donnell spent four years at Celtic, winning another Scottish Cup medal in 1995 then helping to stop the 10 three years later.

When Celtic and Motherwell met last season in the domestic cup finals O’Donnell was remembered with three of his kids involved in the ceremonies.

Every year the Hall of Fame seeks nominations with John Clark and Jim Craig as well as the Lisbon Lions as a team among those induced in 2017.

Injury hampered much of O’Donnell’s career but he did win eight u-21 Scotland caps as well as one full international cap.
