Tony Watt is expected to sign for St Johnstone this week, according to a report in The Sun.

The former Celtic striker quit Belgian side OH Leuven in January and is available as a free agent.

Watt spent some time training with Aberdeen but now looks like signing for Tommy Wright’s side.

Long term striker Stevie McLean left the Perth club for Hearts at the end of last season with Wright making major changes involving the break up of his 2014 Scottish Cup winning side.

Watt joined Celtic from Airdrie in January 2011 and scored twice on his debut as a substitute away to Motherwell in April 2012.

Later that year he scored what turned out to be the winning goal against Barcelona in the Champions League but he failed to start another Celtic game as a striker as Neil Lennon rotated between Gary Hooper, Anthony Stokes and Georgios Samaras.

After three spells in Belgium and stints with Charlton, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers Watt is keen to settle down and enjoy regular first team football.
