Davie Hay believes that Celtic hold the aces in the John McGinn transfer stand off.

So far Hibs have rejected three bids for the midfielder who has less than a year remaining on his contract.

It’s unclear whether Celtic will go back in with a fourth bid with Hibs hoping that an English club will come in with an offer more to their liking over the remaining fortnight of their transfer window.

Whether McGinn would rather head south while knowing he could sign a pre-contract deal with Celtic in January remains to be seen with the player having the ultimate say in where his career goes.

Hay had his own transfer troubles when McGinn’s grand-father Jack was his chairman at Celtic in the eighties but feels that John is destined to join the hoops.

In the Evening Times he stated:

He will be a good acquisition, but midfield isn’t really the top priority at the moment.

Because of that, I think that Celtic’s approach has been the right one. It doesn’t seem as if there is too much other interest out there, and I think the boy himself wants to go to Celtic.

Both sides are entitled to do what is right for them in the negotiations, but I think that Celtic can afford to bide their time and get the player on their own terms. If it isn’t this summer, then the only party that will really lose out is Hibs financially.
